Casarilla
Casarilla, often spelled cascarilla, is a white chalk-like powder traditionally made from finely ground eggshells and used in several Afro-Caribbean spiritual and folk traditions, including practices associated with Santería/Lukumí. It is commonly used for protection, cleansing, blessings, and marking sacred spaces. Practitioners may draw symbols or lines near doorways, windows, altars, or ritual areas as a symbolic boundary against unwanted energy. Some also use it in spiritual baths or place small amounts in ritual settings, depending on their lineage and guidance. Because customs vary widely, it is best to learn from a knowledgeable and respectful practitioner rather than relying on generalized instructions. Cascarilla should be handled carefully: avoid inhaling the powder, keep it away from children and pets, and do not treat it as a substitute for medical, mental health, legal, or other professional care.
